Genetic Counseling

Dr. Teepu Siddique, Les Turner ALS Foundation/Herbert C. Wenske Foundation Professor and Director of the Neuromuscular Disorders Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, is recognized internationally as an expert in the genetics of ALS. The Les Turner ALS Research Laboratory is the only center that employs a full-time genetic counselor to discuss the complex issues associated with risk assessment and genetic testing for ALS.

Lab1 079.jpgGenetic counseling is available for families who may have one of the genes responsible for the familial form of ALS. The genetic counselor is closely involved in recording genetic information, drawing up pedigrees, and educating patients and their families.
