Downside: Cost 

Using a trach and IMV is more expensive than using a non-invasive ventilation (NIV) device. The cost of medical equipment and caregivers can add up quickly, and insurance typically does not cover the cost of care needed to use a trach and IMV.  

Additionally, your health insurance coverage may affect how often you are able to get medical equipment and supplies. Check with your health insurance provider to find out how often they will cover (pay for) the equipment and supplies you need.
