Experience the Power of Community
Rhona Bresler will always remember the experience. While the Les Turner ALS Walk for Life raises vital funds for ALS research, care, and support, it also holds profound personal significance for participants like Rhona, who leads the team Always Love Shelly in memory of her late husband.
“The first year that we walked, when Shelly came out, all our friends came out with their kids and showered him with love,” says Rhona. “That was a special day.”
Rhona’s husband was diagnosed with ALS in 2007. Since then, she has been a steadfast participant. She treasures the Walk as a time of solidarity and remembrance, celebrating the support that the Les Turner ALS Foundation provided during her most challenging times.
We’re proud to announce a major funding milestone for 2024, providing over $1 million in research grants and clinic and endowment support at the Les Turner ALS Center at Northwestern Medicine.
Led by Dr. Robert G. Kalb, the Center is advancing groundbreaking ALS research, attracting renowned experts new to ALS studies, and continuing promising investigations. These efforts include exploring the immune system’s role in ALS, innovative stem cell research, and developing new therapeutic approaches.

Lou Gehrig Day was a Smash Hit!
This year, our community came together in impressive numbers to celebrate Lou Gehrig Day at both Cubs and White Sox games. We were thrilled to welcome more than 230 fans for the White Sox game on Sunday, May 26 and the Cubs game on Sunday, June 2. It was also great to bring together several ALS organizations to share the experience.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the ballpark for these special events. If we caught a snapshot of you enjoying the game, be sure to check out our Flickr account to find your photo!
