Dr. Senda Ajroud-Driss has been honored as the Les Turner ALS Foundation / Herbert C. Wenske Professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. An endowed professorship is the highest academic honor that a faculty member can attain.
Born in Tunisia, Dr. Ajroud-Driss completed her medical education and training in Chicago, joining the faculty of Northwestern University in 2005. As the Director of the Lois Insolia ALS Clinic, she has dedicated her career to advancing ALS care and research. Dr. Ajroud-Driss has expanded the neuromuscular clinical research program at Northwestern and played a pivotal role in gene therapy development, leading to innovative treatments for hereditary neuromuscular disorders.
We are proud to announce this well-deserved recognition of her outstanding contributions to ALS research and her commitment to improving the lives of people living with ALS through her work at the Les Turner ALS Center at Northwestern Medicine. This professorship was created in 2005 through the generosity of the Les Turner ALS Foundation and the Herbert C. Wenske Foundation.
The Les Turner ALS Foundation recently signed a new 10-year, $10 million gift agreement with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, reinforcing our long-standing partnership with the university’s world-class ALS researchers. This pledge supports cutting-edge studies at the Les Turner ALS Center at Northwestern Medicine, advancing understanding and treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
“We’re thrilled to continue this partnership,” said CEO Laura Freveletti, noting the progress being made in uncovering the causes of ALS and developing new treatment pathways.
This continued support allows for groundbreaking research and life-enhancing care at the Lois Insolia ALS Clinic. “Together, we will find a cure,” said Dr. Robert G. Kalb, director of the Les Turner ALS Center.

Join us for the October ALS Learning Series, where Dr. Jinny Tavee will discuss complementary and alternative therapies for people living with ALS. Dr. Tavee will explore how areas like nutrition, exercise, and mind-body therapies can play a major role in improving well-being for those with ALS. A Q&A session will follow her presentation, offering the opportunity to dive deeper into these holistic approaches.
Dr. Tavee is the Chief of Neurology at National Jewish Health and has a special interest in integrative holistic medicine. She has recently completed a clinical trial evaluating the use of yoga breathing for people living with ALS.
