Grayslake Lacrosse vs ALS

There is nothing like celebrating when a community comes together for a shared vision. On Friday, May 11th, the Grayslake North High School and Grayslake Central High School lacrosse teams are holding their first annual Grayslake Lacrosse vs ALS Awareness Night in honor of Tim Paust. Tim, co-founder of the Grayslake Youth Lacrosse Association, passed away from ALS in 2014. Since Tim’s passing, the Grayslake Lacrosse community has been tireless in their efforts to honor his memory and raise money to one day see a world free of ALS.

For years, the Grayslake Lacrosse community ran in our Team Race for ALS program at the annual Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago. This year, a schedule conflict kept them from the Shuffle, but it did not stop them from continuing in their mission of raising awareness and money for people living with ALS. Thanks to the enthusiasm and endless motivation of Brad Fish (Grayslake North Lacrosse), Chris Ridella (Grayslake Central Lacrosse) and Deb Paust, Tim’s wife, the Grayslake Lacrosse vs ALS Awareness Night was born. The event is part of our new Fundraise Your Way program, which allows our dedicated ALS community the ability to easily turn their ideas, from birthdays to golf outings to lacrosse tournaments, into ways to raise money.

The Grayslake Lacrosse vs ALS Awareness Night will feature a JV and Varsity lacrosse game, a 50/50 raffle and event merchandise for sale. Over 100 Grayslake High School lacrosse players, youth participants and community members will come together to honor Tim, who was instrumental in making the Grayslake Lacrosse community what it is today.

In a showing of even greater community spirit and sportsmanship, both Grayslake North High School and Grayslake Central High School lacrosse teams are collecting donations.  All proceeds from the event will go to the Les Turner ALS Foundation in support of people living with ALS and their families. Buffalo Wild Wings, which will host a  celebratory dinner after the game, will also donate a portion of its sales.
